Gabby – Australian Shepherd, CRN 060789
Skidmarkz nominates Gabby, owned by Lori Griffith. Gabby is a unique-looking Australian Shepherd. With her flashy blue merle coat and her piercing bark, you are sure to notice this pretty girl in the ring. What you might not notice is that she’s missing a leg! Gabby started out playing flyball with all four paws, but an accident caused permanent nerve damage to her front leg. This certainly didn’t deter Gabby. After she figured out how to balance and run on three legs, Gabby returned to the racing lanes with her “bad leg” tucked into her harness. Unfortunately, many observers tried to stop racing thinking her leg was “caught” in the harness! Eventually the leg had to be amputated. Now things like bringing her ball back remain challenges (she didn’t always like to do that with four legs!). We are very proud that NAFA allows dogs of all sorts, even tri-pawds, to participate in this sport. And Gabby’s team depends upon her to play. We also think Gabby is an inspiration for everyone: bad things happen, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on the things you love; you just need to find your balance and keep racing.
