I nominate Secretariat (AKA “Red”) for the Region 5, 2020 MVP award. Red has enjoyed an illustrious Flyball career. He was a member of the TXT Championship Multibreed team for 4 straight years. When Flyball was so abruptly interrupted by Covid-19 pandemic, Red was on track to earn the Hobbs award in July at the “Let Freedom Race” tournament in his hometown of Houston. Red helped numerous green dogs on his own club, as well as many others with whom he practiced. Red’s steady running style allowed him to pass and be passed by dogs just learning Flyball. Red assisted many a Club to complete a team, enabling them to race. He ran with green teams, seasoned teams, slow teams and fast teams, Red just loved to play Flyball. He could be handled by anyone and ran in any position. Red played in 8 Can Am tournaments, and never missed a Region 5 Tournament from 2012 when he began his Flyball career until it was suspended in 2020. Flyball was his game and he came to play and gave it his all. In every way, to those of us who played with him, Red epitomized the definition of MVP.
